History
Macondo is an Angolan municipality in Moxico-Leste province, created in 2024 from the eastern part of the former Moxico province. Its history is linked to eastern Angolan peoples, regional trade and the region's natural and mineral wealth.
Geographic Location
Macondo is located in Moxico-Leste province, whose capital is Cazombo. The municipality is one of nine municipalities in this new administrative unit, in a region marked by savannas, rivers and borders with neighboring countries.
Population and Culture
Macondo is part of a province with over 300,000 inhabitants, marked by a strong cultural identity of eastern Angola. Oral tradition, music, dance and traditional crafts are living expressions of local communities.
Administrative Information
The municipality comprises the communes of Macondo (seat) and Calunda. The municipal administration promotes local development, tourism, education and infrastructure for the population's well-being.
